Sample questions

  1. Find the area of a sector of a circle with radius 14 cm and central angle 90°. Use π = 22/7.

    Show answer

    Answer: A. 154 cm²

    Area = (90/360) × π × 14² = ¼ × (22/7) × 196 = 154 cm².

  2. A chord of a circle of radius 10 cm subtends a right angle at the centre. Find the area of the minor segment. Use π = 3.14.

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 28.5 cm²

    Sector area = ¼ × 3.14 × 10² = 78.5 cm². Triangle area = ½ × 10 × 10 = 50 cm². Segment = 78.5 − 50 = 28.5 cm².

  3. Find the length of an arc of a circle of radius 12 cm that subtends a central angle of 45°. Use π = 3.14.

    Show answer

    Answer: D. 9.42 cm

    Arc length = (45/360) × 2 × 3.14 × 12 = 1/8 × 75.36 = 9.42 cm.

  4. The minute hand of a clock is 14 cm long. How far does its tip move in 15 minutes? Use π = 22/7.

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 22 cm

    In 15 minutes the hand sweeps 90°. Arc length = (90/360) × 2 × (22/7) × 14 = ¼ × 88 = 22 cm.

  5. A sector of a circle has perimeter 30 cm and radius 9 cm. Find the central angle of the sector (nearest whole degree). Use π = 3.14.

    Show answer

    Answer: C. 76°

    Arc length = 30 − 2 × 9 = 12 cm. Using arc length = (θ/360) × 2πr: 12 = (θ/360) × 2 × 3.14 × 9. Thus θ = 12 × 360 ÷ 56.52 ≈ 76.4°, nearest 76°.
